Transformation is hard

“If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change” – Michael Jackson – Man in the Mirror.

Transformation is hard.

You are driving a team of old timers who refuse to listen to your pitch to change. Your company is “bleeding” and you can’t motivate people enough to go through the struggle to get to the other side. You tried to rally people across multi-divisions to deliver a systemic change that you believe is best for your organisation and have to navigate the politics among the leaders who are just “guarding” their turfs. Sound scarily familiar?

It is hard not just because of all of the above mentioned. It is hard because the cause and effect relationships among variables that can drive effective change cannot be easily understood and analysed without taking a system approach.

When a leader is not careful in understanding the structural dynamics of these variables and intervene without deeper thoughts, he/she often creates more unintended consequences than driving the change they seek. We often called this fixes that backfire.

There are many ways in which we can attempt to address this challenge. One of them is to focus on transforming the quality of your leader’s thinking effectiveness. Albert Einstein perfectly described this: “We can’t solve problems by using the kind of thinking we used when we created them”. Similarly, many of these challenges are often caused by existing ways of thinking by leaders.

Needless to say, as a transformative consultancy company, I am deeply privileged to be selected by Pacific International Lines (PTE) Ltd [PIL] (a large MNC giant in the shipping industry) as their partner to uplift the quality of their leaders’ thinking effectiveness through our flagship customised Systems Thinking Habits for Change Champion programme.

This flagship programme has delivered impactful results to our clients for 3.5 years now. For example, it helped a sales organisation of a large Bank transforms itself and grows its sales revenue by 2x to >100 million and a multi-national security service company turns profitable both within a year.

The recent PIL programme concluded with extremely encouraging evaluation results of deep learning and high motivation to translate the learning into impacts.

If you are struggling in leading effective transformation in your organisation and like to explore how my programme can plant the seed of change to improve the quality of your leader’s thinking through systems thinking habits, our expertise can be of value to you.
